Having Fun In Broward County, Florida

There’s a reason why Florida is the third most populated state in the country. As of December 2014, its population reached almost 20 million. So why do people love the Sunshine State so much (besides the year-round tan you can get, of course)? In particular, people tend to flock to Broward County, which is made up of famous cities like Fort Lauderdale. Here are a few of the many reasons why Broward County residents and visitors like it there so much:

Fort Lauderdale

When you think of Fort Lauderdale, you might instantly think, “Woooo! Spring Break!” but there’s so much more to this iconic town than that. Sure, if you’re in the mood to lounge on the beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach is a great spot. But it also has some fantastic parks, museums, and shops. For a unique view of the city, take a guided tour at Fort Lauderdale Segway Tour, which includes a 30-minute lesson on how to ride one, followed by a 1-3 hour tour of the downtown area.

Did you know Fort Lauderdale was known as the “Yachting Capital of the World”? In the spirit of that, take a gondola ride on the canals. If you love boating, you’ll love going to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at the end of October (or beginning of November). Every year, they take over Fort Lauderdale for five days with boat (and car) exhibits.

Art lover? Check out the annual Las Olas Art Fair, which also takes place at the end of October. Even if you aren’t an art fan, you should check it out, because not only is it free, but it’s full of award-winning artists you can meet yourself.

Deerfield Beach

Deerfield Beach lives up to its name with its many pristine beaches, fantastic boardwalk, and beautiful fishing pier. There’s open beach access, coastal shopping, and beachside restaurants and entertainment.

For something a little different, go to the annual Florida Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park, where participants go all out in time-period garb amid medieval themes. Set in the 16th century, this event takes place from February to March and features over 100 artisans, more than 100 performers, and tons of great food and drink that’s set in a family-friendly environment.

If you have a Tuesday evening free, go to Tuesday Night Beach Dances, which has been a relaxing weekly fixture for more than three decades under the stars.

Coral Springs

As a city that’s steeped in the arts, it isn’t surprising that people love going to the Coral Springs Museum of Art. This 30,000 square foot center is an art museum, as well as a performance theater and International Peace Garden. The museum’s mission is to “create a stimulating and enjoyable educational visual arts experience for the South Florida community, exhibiting diverse Florida, national, and international artists.”

Another fantastic way to make great memories in Coral Springs is to go to Monster Mini Golf, which features 18 holes of indoor glow-in-the-dark mini golf with a monster theme. The unique pastime includes animated monsters, special effects, unusual obstacles, live music, and a crazy emcee that gives away prizes for the most random reasons. In addition to mini golf, it also has a laser maze and arcade.

Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach is often called “the Heart of the Gold Coast” and has exceptional boating and fishing. It is also ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. The city maintains over 50 local parks and a ton of fun events throughout the year. Some of Pompano’s most notable events are its holiday boat parade in December, seafood festival in April, and fishing rodeo in May.

One fun place to visit is the Festival Marketplace in Pompano. Not only can you have fun shopping and dining there, but you can partake in trivia nights each week. In December, go there for their handmade craft show or holiday car show.

Another great spot is the 26 Degree Brewing Company, which puts together a lot of unique events, such as Oktoberfest, No Bull Brunch every Sunday, Open Mic Monday, and Yoga at the Brewery.

Safety Guidelines

There’s no doubt that you’ll make some amazing memories in Broward County, but it’s also important to be mindful of your safety whenever you’re out on the town. There’s a surprising number of slips and falls at restaurants, shopping malls, stairwells, and public sidewalks to name a few. If one of these (or other) institutions is negligent about safety precautions, which result in your injury, contact Shiner Law Group if you want compensation for your injuries.

Why Broward County is the Place To Be

As the third most populated state in America, Florida is popular for a reason. Broward County alone is jam-packed with great attractions and events like its renaissance fair, art walks, and boat shows. It’s no wonder why tourism is the biggest money-earning sector of Florida’s economy in places like Broward County.
